The mounting body of evidence that proves the effectiveness of these type of diets, should leave no doubt that Carbs are the killer
So why carbohydrates and not fat is the reason we are all getting fatter and fatter? Insulin! An important hormone that stops our bodies using fat as a source of energy. Carbohydrates define our insulin levels, the more carbs we eat, the more insulin we secrete, the less our body’s can use fat as a source of energy and as a result, the more fat we store in our fatty tissue.
We do not get fat by overeating!
We get fat by the hormonal imbalance caused by eating carbs which then causes us to overeat, this hormonal imbalance in turn slows down our metabolism. By eating carbs, especially easily digestible carbs (bread, flour, cereal, grains, starchy vegetables potatoes, and sugars, like sucrose) we are causing a vicious circle a hormone imbalance which slows down our metabolism, carbs promoting insulin secretion, promoting fat, making us overeat with yet more carbs.
The benefits of cutting down carbohydrates
The body benefits replacing carbohydrates with fats, by changing the fuel it burns for energy, from burning Carbs to fat, utilizing both your body fat and the fat you eat. The body can suffer at first from carbohydrate withdrawal (keto-adaptation) as the body adapts to ketosis resulting from eating fewer than sixty grams of carbohydrates a day, some short-term effects are fatigue, sickness, dehydration, constipation. This is why the authorities first insisted that these type of diets were not safe, and lots of people give in easily, but by overcoming the short withdrawal symptoms, you have a much increased chance of living a longer, leaner, and healthier life.
